Description
This is an antique Round Bottom Bottle embossed on the bottom, "K B". The light green to aqua colored bottle is most likely a soda or mineral water bottle dating between the 1870s and 1910s. Soda and mineral water bottles of that age, also referred to as ballast bottles, were made with round bottoms to to ensure they were laid on their sides, to prevent air from escaping. "K.B." likely indicates the Kilner Brothers, an English glassmaker that began business in the 1840s. The next generation, the "Kilner Brothers", beginning in the 1850s used the initials "KB" to mark the bottles, most frequently with "Ltd". This bottle only has the "KB". My father, an avid bottle hunter, dug this bottle up more than 45 years ago in the ruins of an old plantation in Virginia. It appears to be produced by a mold with the crown top applied separately. The glass is extremely thick and heavy. The bottle neck appears to be slightly crooked to me. It is in great shape, free from breaks or cracks. Clarity and color are nice for a dug bottle. There is some minor sediment deposit. There are a few scratches and age related bubbles. The vintage soda bottle measures about 9.5" x 2".For More Information:
