Description
Antique Priest Napa Blob Top Soda, Mineral Water, California Bottle. This bottle has an interesting history.Joshua James Priest Came to California in 1849. He lived from 1826-1896. In the late 1860's, he bought
638 acres in Napa Valley, then called Soda Valley, for the many natural springs there. His land was on
the eastern side of the Vaca Mountain Range. Priest bottled his mineral water in the 1870's, and I know
of two major bottle varieties. I believe that this one is the earlier and less common, because of the off-center
Priest name. The other variety has an image of a monk or priest in the embossing. The land is now part of
the Somerston wine company, and they still grow and sell Priest wines.
This bottle is just under 7 1/4 inches tall, has the original wire closure fastener, and weighs nearly one pound!
Very heavy and thick glass. The glass is shiny and clean, with no damage. Obviously not buried. On one
side, simply Priest Napa. On the back side, Natural Mineral Water, arched above and below, and diagonally
in the center Bottled At The Springs. Medium greenish-blue aqua in color. A very nice Napa bottle!
Shipping weight 2 pounds, Priority Mail. United States only, please.
