A beautiful SET of 2 CROWN STAFFORDSHIRE Fine Bone China CUPS & SAUCERS Striking VIVID BLACK Outlined PANELS holding FLORAL SPRAYS, Circa 1915-1930 from Fenton, Staffordshire, England
Thomas Allen Green and Spencer Green were brothers who bought out other family members in 1876 of a business that could be traced back to 1801.  The pottery was located at Minerva Works in Fenton, Staffordshire, England.  The company traded as T.A. & S. Green until incorporated as Crown Staffordshire Porcelain Co. Ltd in 1903.  The company was an important exporter to North America and continued limited production during WWII.  In 1946, the company purchased Heron Cross Pottery to expand production.  In 1948, the name was changed to Crown Staffordshire China Co. Ltd.  The firm continued to be owned & operated by the Green family until 1964 when Semart Importing Co. (the US distributor of Crown Staffordshire) acquired the firm.  The Crown Staffordshire name was used until it became part of the Wedgwood Group in 1974.
This superb quality china has colors that are bright and vivid.  The floral sprays are empaneled by bold black on a blank of high white fine bone china. The cup and saucer are tied together by the use of the same pattern and black panels on the inside of the saucer and the outside of the cup.  Each cup has a single floral in the bottom on the inside.
While these sets of cups & saucers are classified as used, we can find no defects and no use wear.  They show no black wear on the trim.  There appears to be absolutely no wear to the vivid color and no crazing.  There are no chips, nicks, cracks, hairlines, scratches, rubbing or repairs to these stunning sets.  See the photos to judge for yourself.
The saucers have a diameter of 5 7/16" & a height of 3/4".  The cups have a diameter of 3 5/16" and a height of 2 1/4".
As collectors ourselves, we tend to be very picky and find it necessary to point out anything we see.  The mark on both sets is identified by Geoffrey A. Godden’s (
Encyclopaedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks
) as mark #1149 which was used 1906-1930 time period.  The registration mark of #646543 was entered in registration book in 1915.  This narrows the window of production for these sets to the 1915-1930 time period.
