  • Condition: THIS GREEN GLASS BOTTLE IS IN OVERALL GOOD CONDITION FOR USE AND AGE. THE GLASS HAS GROUND WEAR, CASE WEAR, SOME LIGHT SCRAPES AND SCRATCHES.THE INSIDE OF GLASS DOES HAVE CONTENT STAIN THAT COVERS ABOUT 50% OF THE INSIDE, MAINLY THE BACK INSIDE. GLASS CLARITY IS FAIRLY GOOD. BASE HAS MODERATE/HEAVY SHELF WEAR. THE HAND APPLIED DOUBLE TAPER TOP IS IN GOOD SHAPE WITH NORMAL WEAR ASSOCIATED WITH THIS TYPE OF BOTTLE. EMBOSSING IS A STRONG STRIKE, ALL LETTERING CLEARLY VISIBLE. ALL ORIGINAL GLASS AS IT CAME FROM THE GLASSWORKS. NO TUMBLING, ALTERATIONS OR REPAIRS. RESIDUE FROM PONTIL ROD IS GONE, JUST A FAINT OUTLINE REMAINS. THIS BOTTLE FEATURES A CRUDE RECTANGULAR SLUGPLATE COMPLETE WITH ORANGE PEEL APPEARANCE BEHIND EMBOSSING. THIS IS ONE OF THE DEEPEST KICK-UP PONTILS I HAVE EVER SEEN MEASURING 1-1/2" DEEP.

    Description

    General - American Pre-Civil War, 1850s J.M. Kirschenmann Slug Plate Porter, out Philadelphia, PA. Hand blown, hand applied double tapered finish, and  a deeply indented, clearly identifiable, iron pontil base with very light pontil rod residue noted. Bottling establishment address embossed on front of bottle and Glassmakers mark embossed on back of bottle. John M. Kirschenmann was listed in the 1855 Philadelphia City Directory as follows, "KIRSCHENMANN, JOHN M, BEER HOUSE, 485 G T ROAD (Germantown Road)".  BIMAL
