Summers was a Catholic priest (converted from Anglicanism) and he wrote on these subjects most definitely from a ‘pro ecclesia’ standpoint; but he was a superior scholar, and he dredged up some most interesting material. Summer's thesis is that the witchcraft phenomenon was and, in his time in the early 20th century, remained a very real and a very dangerous heresy. As can be seen from the title of Chapter VI, he even dragged the then modern and ongoing craze for spiritualism into the same arena. A fascinating, challenging, and worthwhile read.
