    Description

For your consideration: an R. Martino blob beer bottle from Philadelphia, PA. It was blown in aqua glass batch into a two-part slug-plate champagne beer mold and finished with a hand-tooled blob lip in the 1880's manufacturing era. This example was made at the Eastlake Glassworks in Bridgeton, NJ as evidenced from the base embossing: " E L 6 ". (The number is an internal manufacturing mold code for the companies use.) This was recovered in a Philadelphia privy excavation in the last year. It is in very good dug condition with no damage at all. Light use wear and mild ground patina. The bottle shows nice crude glass creases and stretching throughout the neck area. One small potstone in the neck as seen in the images. " This Bottle / Not To be Sold " -embossed across the reverse heel. Inside the vertical oval slugplate is embossed: " R. Martino / No. 752 / South 6th St. / Philada, PA. " A nice solid South Phila blob beer. The bottle measures: 9 1/16" x 2 11/16".
