    RARE "Hindle & Company, Blackpool" Codd Bottle ~ Marble in the Neck Description: "Hindle & Company, Blackpool" Marble in the Neck c.1870-1890. Embossed on front: "Hindle & Company, Blackpool" Bottom: maker mark 10 OZ 11A2 Logo is Plant with Flowering Buds There are a variety of Codd Bottles, here is a brief history: An English engineer who, in 1872, patented a bottle filled under gas pressure which pushed a marble against a rubber washer in the neck, creating a perfect seal. Using a specially designed tool, the marble could be pushed down into a crimp in the bottle neck, allowing the liquid to be poured. A specially designed machine was used to fill the bottles.
