    Description

rare original and intact c. 1843-45 american light aqua blue or "aquamarine" colored-glass "superior" brand soda six-sided or multifaceted "tenpin" dug chicago bottle. less than three of these mysterious and incredibly early chicago soda bottles are known to exist. the c. 1840's chicago soda bottle contains an remarkably crude and sloping neck with a crude short tapered lip or collar, similar in style to the bottles of eugene roussel, etc., blown in the 1830's when soda bottles where first introduced. mineral water bottles date back earlier to the 1820's with lynch and clarke. the mid-19th century chicago bottle formerly belonged to a prominent chicago bottle collector who has the bottle professionally cleaned (i.e., tumbled) inside and out. an unembossed panel contains a "potstone" with some legs. a miniscule crack is located on the inside of the bottle's collar. irregardless of condition, it is considered by some to be the oldest known chicago soda bottle to be discovered. the deeply pontiled base shows very little, if any, traces of iron oxide. the height of the unusually tall bottle is 8 1/4 inches. the hand blown bottle would have had a cork stopper.
